ST. ANTON, Austria (Jan. 13) - Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) came ever so close to the podium Sunday in St. Anton, finishing fourth just a hundredth of a second out of third. Slovenia's Tina Maze continued her total dominance on the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup with the win to join Vonn as one of six athletes to win in all five World Cup disciplines. Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) was sixth. The women's tour now heads to Flachau, Austria for a night slalom Tuesday before swinging south to the Dolomites for another weekend of speed racing.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) skied to fourth in the St. Anton super G, just a hundredth of a second off the podium as Tina Maza picked up the win.
  • Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) was sixth, Laurenne Ross (Bend, OR) 17th and Stacey Cook (Mammoth Mountain, CA) 25th.
  • Vonn was pleased with the weekend after taking three weeks away from the Audi FIS World Cup to recover from an intestinal infection.
  • Vonn is now fifth in the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall standings, but more than 700 points behind Maze who is running away with the title.
  • The World Cup heads to Flachau, Austria for a night slalom Tuesday where Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) will be back in action, before heading to the Italian Dolomities for a weekend of speed racing in Cortina.

QUOTES
Lindsey Vonn

I was a little disappointed to be one hundredth off the podium. But it was a solid performance. I definitely know where I can make up the time. On the bottom of the course I was a little passive. I wasn't quite as clean as I should have been on some of the left footed turns. But in general my skiing was solid, I'm right there. I just need to be a little bit more aggressive.

I'm excited to race in Cortina. This weekend every day was better building my confidence back up. Cortina is a place where I've had success in the past. I think by the time I get there I'll be in a position to get back on the podium.

(on Tina Maze) It's amazing to see her do so well. She's been on a roll - top three in every event. She's clearly running away with the overall. It's cool to watch. I think it's great for the sport and I'm really happy for her.

Julia Mancuso
It's nice to go fast again. We've had a lot of bad luck with downhill this season with not a lot of good training runs, so it's been a while since I've skied fast. I'm happy with today and I look forward to Cortina next week.

I had problems in the long turns this time. I was really good where it was fast and straight but my timing is a little off, so I need to train a little more.

It was really cool to see Alice win yesterday. That was a weekend highlight for sure. I think that if you can't win the race, then it should be one of your teammates.
